The Main Event - 08.08.09
It's official: Mark your calendars, make your travel plans, get off work and plan on spending the evening of Saturday, August 8th, 2009 with your fellow classmates.
We'll be at Bacchanalia in Overland Park, KS. Click here to view their website. We're planning on a buffet dinner, cash bar, dancing, entertainment and a whole lot of fun. Click here to take a video tour - featuring George Brett! (p.s. not a member of our class for those who weren't paying attention).
We'll follow up with more details about the cost for the evening, nearby hotel accomodations, and how to sign up.
Fun Web Sites for people in the later 40s
Here are a couple of websites that will bring tears to your eyes as you remember the 70's. The first is a collection of family photos from Olan Mills photos with snappy captions added for your enjoyment. See these images don't conjure up memories of being taken to the studio for the family photo.
In addition, you'll love to see a similar site that features a 1977 JC Penney catalog. (Parental discretion advised TV14-L warning: this has the word *ss) You'll be shocked to believe that not only did people dress like this, but they also thought it was cool!
Click here to view the SMWest79.com website. If you see a classmate around town, just tell them to check out "SMWEST79.com" to visit the site and they can reconnect from there.
Our reunion will be administered through the Class Report website. Please create your own user name and login by visiting the site and taking 10 minutes to update your personal information, write a short bio and upload a current picture. Your name has already been loaded for our class. Click here to register for the first time. Your name is already entered in the directory. Just enter your username (your email) and create a password and then you're in. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR USING THIS SITE. Only people who have logged in, my see others information if they decide to share it. This site will be our "address book" and "memory book" all in one. Thanks to Chris Karson and Jennifer Ferrell Gray for helping to "chip in". Only 9 more people needed to cover one year.
Phone a friend
I believe that we can track people down better than anyone else. If you know how to contact someone from our class who is currently on the "lost" list, please give them a phone call or forward them this email to reconnect. My hope is that every single member of our class would have the opportunity to reconnect and attend our reunion. Is there someone that you can track down for us. Our reunion company will work hard at doing this, but I'd love to see us make the first call if we can.
Spotted someone around town but don't have any details? Leave them on our Rumours page.
The reunion is already underway at our group site at Facebook.com. We now have 67 people from our class on our Facebook group and add a few more every week. Since the last email the following have joined: Susan Yates, Kevin McCracken, Bill Pickert, Mary Bins-Wells. Click here to join the Facebook group.
Glenn Tobin recently put his picture up on Facebook. As I was reading the paper this morning and saw that the Jonas Brothers have a 3-D movie opening this weekend, I came to realize that Glenn was separated at birth and probably was a Jonas Brother.
I think Glenn couild have been the spitting image for the Jonas Brother on the left back in the day. (Apologies to Glenn. You know I love you. Some people say that I look like Mr. Bean.)
Please feel free to share any recent photos of classmates and I'll post them on our web page. Can you name all the people in this photo from Barb (hasn't changed a bit) Timmons Broadbridge?
Emails; Corrections; Information; Misspelled names, etc. Please reply and send my way! I'd be really interested in any videos; unique pictures from our class as well.
By the way - the missing word on our diploma is "Mission" correctly answered by Barb as well.
This email is being sent to 166 members of the Class of 1979.
Jump up and down in your blue suede shoes and Rock On... ooh my soul,
